In this mixed-age primary classroom for 3–6 year olds, the Montessori hands-on learning approach includes the major curriculum areas: language, mathematics, sensorial, practical life, cultural studies, science, geography, history, music, and art. The pre-primary program fosters autonomy in children by instilling an “I can do it” attitude, which gives the child a positive feeling about school and builds independence.
We ensure that each building block of the academic foundation is mastered by the child. Using careful observation, the Montessori-trained teacher takes her cues from the child to determine when formal reading and math instruction should begin and when to move on to the next skill. |
